A Third Citation Issued for Noise Violation

The noisemakers did not appear at the southeast corner of 8th and H Streets NE on Saturday, Sept. 3, but did on Saturday, Sept. 10, from about 2-7 p.m. ET.

D.C. Dept. of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) Inspector Mandoza Lowery--with two others--led a noise inspection about 3 p.m. on Sept. 10. Metropolitan Police Dept. Officer Michelle Ridlehoover also was present. According to Officer Ridlehoover, the DCRA again measured the sound with a decibel meter and the group was found to be in violation of D.C. noise regulations. DCRA issue a $1000 citation to a representative of the group. After the citation, the group ceased using the amplifier until about 6 p.m., when they used it until they vacated the corner at 7 p.m.

This is the third citation for noise violation given to the group at 8th and H Streets NE by DCRA (the first on June 18; the second on Aug. 27). Officer Ridlehoover said the next step would be that the noisemaking group and DCRA would meet in court.

Officer Ridlehoover also indicated that a representative of the noisemaking group said he would be willing to meet with the community. Representatives of the noisemaking group were invited to but unable to attend the Aug. 29 community meeting on the noise matter.
