Neighbors Forced to Learn New Variations of the Word ‘Faggot’

After a week’s hiatus, the fellows from the Israelite School of Universal Practical Knowledge (ISUPK) on Saturday resumed their usual amplified rant and rave at the southeast corner of H and 8th Street NE.

The amplifier was blaring as loud as ever. This means the neighbors living in and around the 700 block of 8th Street NE cannot escape hearing the words broadcast from it. Whether the speech touts hate or love doesn't matter—the neighborhood doesn't want to hear it.

In Saturday's episode, the UPKers’ broadcast caught the attention of a man in a colorful shirt waiting for the northbound 90 Metro bus.

The man apparently became incensed after the UPKers uttered comments about homosexuality and that God was going to kill all the “faggots.” He began screaming back at UPKers. Immediately he was in their crosshairs.

They used the amplifier to call him a “faggot” and every vulgar variation of the word.

The man became furious and charged up to the stage. Suddenly, the UPKers bunched up, sticks at hand, to defend themselves against whatever potential physical harm might come their way. The man restrained himself, but the UPKers didn’t miss a beat with their verbal tirade.

Our neighborhood supports free speech, but does that mean using an amplifier to call people vulgarities is protected? Even if it is, Saturday's scene was not a fair fight. It reminded me of bullies on a playground—five against one. And the five had an amplifier.

“What are you?” one of the UPKers bellowed through the amplifier, which by this time was so loud, my ears were beginning to ring. The man paused, removed his hat. The UPKers shut up for a moment to listen for the answer. Then the man shouted at the top of his lungs, “I am an American!”

Unsatisfied, the UPKers immediately resumed their harassment of him, spewing “faggot” in every other word, bashing him for what they said was “sucking another man’s tool.” The fellow had little chance to defend himself publicly because his unaided voice was smothered by the abusive amplifier.

The man was so upset by this verbal barrage, that he actually missed his bus. This elicited laughter from the UPKers and several people assembled on the corner.

Keep in mind that all of these words echo down the block and into the residential homes—the hateful words looming as if they were one big billboard from which there is no escape.

Klav, Your just a racist jerk. You posted all the info about the amplifier previously, so I know you know the knob that controls mic volume is apparently set to "3". You really just hate black people that do not love your people. Racist white people always view blacks that don't love whites and that are not afraid to say it as trouble makers who "stir up our 'good niggers'."

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

The neighbors (of all shapes, sizes and colors) living in and around the 700 block of 8th Street NE support the rights of free speech, religion and assembly.

We only are upholding our rights to purse the quiet enjoyment of our own apartments, homes and yards. Our beef is with the amplifier.

We also support the enforcement of all laws which contribute to the public safety of the entire community.

Hey "anonymous",

It's clear that you're part of the gang of thugs who do not live in DC, but drive to 8th & H St every weekend to spew racist and homophobic rants to those who cannot defend themselves from you because of your amplifier.

I DARE you to come into my neighborhood and start saying racist vitriol against Arabs, whites, gays, and anyone who disagrees with you. I DARE YOU. I live in Adams Morgan. The corner of 18th & Columbia will be fine. If you actually have the balls to do it, I guarantee you won't last more than 30 minutes without someone pulling your plug.

See you Saturday.

Cheers,
Lonnie Bruner

Unfortunately, the post by "Anonmymous" represesents a typical tactic of this group, which is why I must at least agree with Lonnie's sentiment and speculation that the person who posted that text was in fact a member of the ISUPK (or some like-minded group). They are wholly incapable to debating any of these issues of fair terms, and thus when they don't have the advantage of a loud speaker (or numerical supremacy), they resort to crude attempts at poisoning the well (e.g. just asserting that any critic of their racist doctrines, or the means by which they propogate those doctrines, is themself a racist!).

As a psychologist I can say that there is a reason why the ISUPK group so vehemently oppose homosexuals - because they have a history of engaging in homosexual sex themselves. There is a considerable amount of research in this area that supports this theory. In fact, a comprehensive, validated study done back in the late 90's revealed that people convicted of hate crimes against homosexuals had once (or currently, at the time of the crime) practiced homosexuality. The ISUPK hate speech combined with their unkind speech against women really points to their own history of homosexual experiences. Unfortunately they are at odds with themselves for just being who they are so they act out with hate speech against homosexuals. They feel that they've let God down for loving another man. I think if they could come to terms with their true nature that they would find a loving, supportive community of wonderful homosexuals that they could live their lives out with in peace. If they opened their hearts they would also find that God is at peace with their sexual orientation. For now, they're scared that God hates them for having sexual experiences with men; they feel that hate speech against homosexuals is the only way they can redeem themselves in God's eyes. This is a sad, sad coping mechanism for many homosexuals and continues an endless cycle of hate.

I'm continually shcked by what comes out of these guys' mouths. Didn't you say you work in the same building as one of thee guys? You should tape some of these rants and give it to his HR people. They may be interested to know what he thinks about his coworkers. If my employer knew I spent my weekends screaming faggot or nigger or cracker at people walking down the street, I would probably be shown the door. Please consider sharing the name of his employer and perhaps we can all call and inform them about his conduct on our streets.

Yes, one of the UPKers works in my building.

I believe what a person does and says in his own time is his own business. He has a right to free speech.

The neighborhood's issue is the abusive use of the amplifier.

I know, I know. You're beef is with the amp but you're too nice. Oh course he has a right to say what he wants. Similarly, his employer has a right to dismiss employees for sexist, homophobic, and racsist comments. At the very least you should make some of his most quotable remarks available to his fellow co-corkers. Lets see if he has the stones to face his coworkers after they learn some of the hateful stuff he thinks about them. Annoying him at work may help this fool understand that behavior should be time and place appropriate.

Yeah Klav, teach that nigger a lesson. We shouldn't have to tolerate this kinda behavior from our niggers at any time in any place. I sure miss the good'ole days.

Thank you, Mr. ISUPK, for your comical attempt to "assume a different personality." Nobody on this blog agrees with either of your assumed personalities.

One would not be without reason to conclude that "Anonymous" and that ridiculous charicature was indeed posted by the same person who runs the blog titled "Lord's Chosen" (discussed in a couple of previous entries on the Q4Q blog). As has been noted previously, it was this same person who, on his blog, deliberately mischaracterized Mr. Klavitter's motivation as follows:

You're no different from that "cracker” that takes our picture every weekend. You get your feelings hurt by what we say and then you make it your life to discredit us and hate us. JOIN THE FUCKING CLUB, you shit faced heathen. At least the "white" boy started his own blog, all about us of course. He has a goal (to get those I.S.U.P.K. niggers off the street).

It was also this same person who, in another blog discussion, deliberately misrepresented my objections to his interpretation of Revelation 1:14 with similar language:

Is it just a coincidence that your "proper analysis" of biblical scripture has the same result as the Roman Catholic church, who think that they "properly analyze" scripture? Results being, there is no way possible Jesus was one of those "filthy niggers."

A clear pattern forms from these three texts, which is why I think it is not unreasonable to conclude that it is the same person behind them all: a frustrated individual who poisons the well by pulling the race card rather than actually focus on the substance of the relevant discussion.

Dear "anonymous" & Co.:

Please accept Mr. Bruner's kind invitation to move your activities to his neighborhood. We don't want your loud noise and your hateful messages on our corner, and he's invited you. Please go somewhere you are welcome, and stop preying upon the residents of a very poor, mostly African-American area like you do. You guys talk a tough game, but does your group have the guts to pick on someone your own size (volume)? I guess we'll see this Saturday whether you pick the easy targets or step up to the real chllenge...
